He is an active volunteer, serving on the Board of the IEEE Computer Society and holding several leadership roles, including Vice President (Professional and Educational Activities Board, 2024-2026), Distinguished Speaker (DVP), and Member of the European Public Policy Committee for ICT and Artificial Intelligence.
A leading scholar in Cyber Situational Awareness (Cyber SA), cybersecurity, and cyber science, Cyril has extensive experience across multiple domains, including enterprise security architecture, security operations centres, cyber-threat analysis, graph theory, artificial intelligence, data fusion, and the mathematical analysis of security.
Dr. Onwubiko is a graduate of the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, having completed the Organisational Leadership Programme. He holds a PhD in Computer Network Security from Kingston University, London, UK, along with an MSc in Internet Engineering and a BSc with first-class honours in Computer Science and Mathematics.
He has authored several books, including Security Framework for Attack Detection in Computer Networks and Concepts in Numerical Methods, and co-edited Situational Awareness in Computer Network Defense: Principles, Methods & Applications. Cyril is a senior editorial leader in cyber science, serving as Editor of the Cyber Science series (the flagship conference of C-MRiC, London, UK) and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal on Cyber Situational Awareness (IJCSA). He has also served as Guest Editor of the IEEE HKN (The Bridge) Cyber Security Edition (May 2023) and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and conferences.
He is a passionate volunteer and active contributor to the global academic community, serving as a reviewer, keynote speaker, presenter, and steering committee member for over 40 international conferences and journals. The research, which focused on holistic risk analysis framework for identifying interdependent nature and impact of cumulative risks within large complex infrastructures, is a prototype based on Cyril’s book Security Framework for Attack Detection in Computer Networks, VDM Verlag, ISBN: 3639089340.
In the summer of 2014, Cyril founded the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research, Innovation and Collaboration (C-MRiC), a not for profit and non-governmental organisation dedicated to the advancement of outstanding research and innovation through collaboration, and dissemination of scientific and industrial contributions through seminars and publications. Its flagship conference, Cyber Science, a multidisciplinary conference, focusing on advanced and emerging aspects of Cyber Security, Situational Awareness, Artificial Intelligence, Social Media and Blockchain Technologies. The Centre participates, encourages and promotes collaborative scientific, industrial and academic inter-workings among individual researchers, scholars, practitioners, members of existing associations, academia, standardisation bodies, and including government departments and agencies (www.c-mric.org).
